I have had the same issue as you for a while and I needed a quick and easy way to access excel files on a sharepoint site without the use of a piece of complicated code. I have figured out a very easy way to do this. On the ribbon at the top of your list of files use the "All Documents" dropdown list and select "View in File Explorer".
This will take you to your file explorer and you will see the directory name that mirrors the folder in sharepoint. At the top left hand corner of file explorer you will see the "Pin to Quick access" icon. Click the icon. This will give you constant access to your on SharePoint.
You should be able to access the file from there. Note: I am using SharePoint Depending on what SharePoint version you have will depend on how you link your SharePoint files to file explorer. By using the Workbook Connections dialog box, you can easily manage these connections, including creating, editing, and deleting them.
To connect to data when you open a workbook, you must enable data connections by using the Trust Center bar, or by putting the workbook in a trusted location. Data in an Excel workbook can come from two different locations. The data may be stored directly in the workbook, or it may be stored in an external data source, such as a text file, a database, or an Online Analytical Processing OLAP cube.
The external data source is connected to the workbook through a data connection, which is a set of information that describes how to locate, log in, query, and access the external data source. When you are connected to an external data source, you can also perform a refresh operation to retrieve the updated data. Each time that you refresh data, you see the most recent version of the data, including any changes that were made to the data since it was last refreshed.
Connection information can either be stored in the workbook or in a connection file, such as an Office Data Connection ODC file. Connection files are particularly useful for sharing connections on a consistent basis and for facilitating data source administration.
If you use a connection file to connect to a data source, Excel copies the connection information from the connection file into the Excel workbook. When you make changes by using the Connection Properties dialog box, you are editing the data connection information that is stored in the current Excel workbook, and not the original data connection file that may have been used to create the connection, indicated by the file name that is displayed in the Connection File property. Once you edit the connection information with the exception of the Connection Name and Connection Description propertiesthe link to the connection file is removed and the Connection File property is cleared.
The Workbook Connections dialog box helps you manage one or more connections to external data sources in your workbook. You can use this dialog box to do the following:.

Create a Secure Store target application. Configure an Excel workbook to use the published ODC file as a data connection. You must have an account that can be granted access to the data source to which you want to connect your Excel workbook. This can be an Active Directory account, a SQL Server logon, or other set of credentials as required by your data source.
This account will be stored in Secure Store. After you have created the account, the next step is to grant that account read access to the required data. If you are using a data source other than SQL Server, see the instructions for your data source to create a logon with data read permissions for the data access account.
In the Login name box, type the name of the Active Directory account that you created for data access. Now that you have created a data access account and granted it access to a data source, the next step is to create a Secure Store target application. You must create a target application in Secure Store that contains the credentials that you created for data access.
This target application can then be specified in an ODC file and will be used by Excel Services when it refreshes data in the workbook. When you create the target application, you have to specify which users will be authorized to use the credentials stored in Secure Store. You can list users individually, or you can use an Active Directory group. We recommend that you use an Active Directory group for ease of administration.
