Has anyone else encountered this problem with these links? If so how did you fix it? I haven't had time to mess with it yet just noticed it after a trail run today while cleaning it. Hello, I played with mine quite a bit to make clearance a non-issue. I took a couple of pics if that helps Couple things of note I have the servo relocate, moved the steering arms to top and bottom of the knuckle and hex spacers on the wheels. Upgrades and Hop-ups for the Redcat Racing GEN8 Scout II and GEN8 P.A.C.K.

I also enjoy putting something together that looks like something you may see in the full-size world. So when I get the opportunity to do anything with a trail truck, I jump at the chance.

These shocks have more of a scale look, have dual stage springs for improved performance and threaded bodies make adjusting ride height a snap. Pro-Line has them available in mm, mm and mm lengths and I went with the length shocks for my build and I started them off with 40wt shock oil.

This length is slightly shorter than stock and that helped lower the overall CG of my build.

The front shocks are mounted straight up while the rear shocks are angled slightly to soften the rear end and help get the front up and over obstacles. The skid plate is the heaviest piece and its weight is as low as possible in the chassis. I replaced the stock front driveshafts with some Chromoly units from Redcat Racing. These are sure to hold up to any abuse. I upped their game a bit by replacing the stock foam inserts with dual stage foams from Pro-Line.

They allow the tires to conform to various surfaces well and provide enough support for improved side hilling. I picked up the Before calling it done, I used the overspray film to mask the roof, fenders and body armor under the doors and sprayed them with a light coat of stone texture paint followed by a light coat of semi gloss black enamel to simulate the texture found on a full-size jeep. Too many accessories can take away from the scale look of a truck and they can add unnecessary weight.

The transmission and transfer case housings were replaced with aluminum ones and inside are a complete set of steel gears. Steel universal center drive shafts were also used.

They are more durable than the stock units and add more weight down low. The speed control and motor are packed full of great features like Field-Oriented Control, Intelligent torque output, adjustable drag brake and more but the stand out features for me is the Bluetooth connectivity for easy field adjustments of the speed control and the unique waterproof sensor harness.

Doing that eliminated a place to mount the speed control and receiver in the chassis. After some thinking, the receiver found a home on top of the servo and the speed control is now attached to the skid plate.

The Hobbywing speed control has great low end control and feels good from neutral to full speed. On the way to the more complex sections of the trail there are several large roots that are exposed and some smaller rocks that need to be climbed down. The truck tackled those obstacles with ease and that got me excited to see what was going to happen later down the trail.

Before I hit the hardcore stuff, I took the time to grab some quick photos of my build before falls and scrapes get to it. The body came out great and the scale accessories along with the tires and wheels make this truck a real looker. The Hobbywing speed control and motor combo was smooth and the drag brake worked very well and the grip provided by the Pro-Line tires was perfect. My truck really shined when it came to side hilling; the tires held their shape and the low CG provided by all of the metal parts helped it stick to the ground.

Other than the loose nut the Gen8 was in tip top shape out of the box. Turning: As with all RTR rigs, the servos tend to be one of the weakest links. The Gen8 is no different in the weak servo department.

But when it comes to a challenging terrain, like rugged rocks or trying to make it through comp gates, you will notice the slight lack of power from the stock servo. Very surprising is the stock metal servo horn, so when you eventually replace the servo, there will be no need to upgrade the servo horn.

Crawling: This is the main purpose of the Gen8. We started off the testing in Juicebox off-Road Park and the Gen8 made light work of the scale trails and obstacles. Having the portal axles on the Gen8 lets this rig get over almost anything in its path without needing to have bigger tires and also gets rid of the pesky torque twist some RTR rigs tend to have.

The stock shocks are some the best we have seen on a RTR. Not too stiff and not to soft, just the right amount of oil for the desired rebound you would want.

The shocks also have the adjustable spindle if you are looking for a stiffer ride. When it comes to flex, the Gen8 will impress even the harshest of critics. Motors have a tendency to get hotter than normal if the grass is too high; the best use of grass is as a tire cleaner.

Tires: I have mixed feelings about the tires on the Gen8. The 1. The first long test run we just could not get the tires to hook up. Basically, lots of wheel spin but no forward progress. Granted the first test run was on a terrain that consisted of water, moss, mud and slippery rocks. As the testing continued the tires got better and better.

And by the time we took the Gen8 to Crawler Canyon RC Park we were surprised at how much the tires had come around since day one. Give the tires some time to break in from their out of the box stiffness. Once the 1. Power: The Gen8 Scout packs a 17T motor. There is nothing more frustrating than being stuck on a hill climb or in a mud hole and knowing that if you just had a little more punch out of your motor you would be all good.

The Gen8s 17T not only gives the needed wheel speed but also delivers some powerful torque. Even if the stock motor takes a dive I think I would just replace it with another 17T As far as your battery choices go I would definitely go with a 2s 5,mAh.
